The Hesston Public Library is pleased to provide adult patrons and their guests with an opportunity to visit some of the museums, zoos, and parks in Kansas for FREE.  This program is designed to engage adults, children, and families in art, history, science, technology, and literacy learning.  A generous donation from the Charlotte Jost trust provided the funding for this program.

Any adult cardholder (age 18+) in good standing with the Hesston Public Library may reserve or check out a Pack.

You may have one Expedition Pack checked out at a time, per patron. The loan period for the Packs is 1-3 days.  Expedition Packs may not be renewed.

Yes! We recommend it! See the calendar of availability by clicking the link at the top of this page, then come in or call us at 620-327-4666 or email us at [email protected] to reserve a Pack. Please note, reservations submitted via email may take several hours to process, depending on staff workload. For immediate reservations, please call or come in. Patrons may have one reservation per pack at a time. Patrons may have reservations for multiple packs scheduled for the future, as long as they don’t overlap.

Patrons may pick up their Expedition Pack after the library opens on the day it is reserved. If the previous patron returns the pack early, you MAY receive a notification that you can pick it up the day before, but early pickup is not guaranteed. Take this into account when placing your reservation.
Patrons must return their Expedition Pack on the day it is due, but it can be done after hours by using the exterior drop box slot by the front door.

Contact HPL staff to cancel or reschedule so other patrons have the opportunity to use it.
If you reserve a pack but do not pick it up without contacting library staff, the first time patrons will receive a reminder to please call, even if it is the day-of, and let us know you are not able to use your pack.
If you reserve a pack but do not pick it up without contacting library staff a second time, you will receive an official warning regarding abandoning reserved expedition packs.
If within 6 months, you do not pick up a pack without contacting library staff a third time, you will receive a one-week suspension from borrowing or reserving Expedition Packs, and be limited to two-day Expedition Pack check-outs for 90 days.
Subsequent abandonments will result in an additional week of suspension from borrowing or reserving Expedition Packs.

The overdue fine for an Expedition Pack is $5.00 per day. If you fail to return a pack, the membership may be cancelled and you may be banned from checking out other packs. Fines will accrue until they have met the complete replacement cost. Costs vary per pack.

Passes may be limited to general admission only. You are responsible for planning your trip. Be sure to check the destination’s policies and hours for the day you plan to use an Expedition pass. Not all events/exhibits are covered with the pass, and other restrictions may apply.  Additional fees are your responsibility. Please contact the destination directly for more information. Destinations and the Library may change the terms and conditions of the Expedition passes at any time. The Library is not responsible for any injuries incurred while using a Pack. Packs will not be shared through Interlibrary Loan.
