Hesston Public Library is hiring a Programming Coordinator to join our team in January.
The position is currently open and will remain open until mid-December.
The position is 24 hours per week, $15 per hour.
The Programming Coordinator’s primary responsibilities will include Summer Library Program, After School at H.P.L., Wednesday Wigglers Storytime, once per month Adult/Teen Craft Night, annual Community Read and a specialty program once per quarter.

Job Summary:

This position focuses on organizing and overseeing the Summer Library Program, after-school activities, a once-per-week Storytime program, monthly adult and teen programs, an annual Community Read event, and quarterly specialty programs. The programming coordinator will report monthly to the Director with analytics of the number and types of programs, as well as program attendance. The Programming Coordinator will consult with the Director for budgeting, purchasing and financial needs to support programming.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Summer Library Program

   – Plan, organize, and execute the annual Summer Library Program, including selecting themes, coordinating activities, and managing resources.

   – Collaborate with local schools and community organizations to promote and expand the program’s reach.

   – Monitor and evaluate the program’s success through participant feedback and data analysis.

2. After-School Programs

   – Develop and implement after-school programs to support the educational and recreational needs of children and teenagers.

   – Create engaging and age-appropriate activities that foster learning and creativity.

   – Collaborate with educators and volunteers to ensure program effectiveness.

3. Once-Per-Week Storytime:

   – Conduct a weekly Storytime program for children, promoting early literacy and a love for reading.

   – Choose and present engaging stories, songs, and activities that cater to pre-school age children.

   – Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and local daycares to encourage participation.

4. Monthly Adult and Teen Programs

   – Curate a diverse calendar of monthly programs for both adults and teens, covering a wide range of interests and topics.

   – Plan and execute events such as book clubs, workshops, lectures, and cultural activities.

   – Promote these programs within the community to ensure participation.

5. Annual Community Read

   – Organize and oversee the annual Community Read event, selecting a book and coordinating related activities and discussions.

   – Collaborate with local book clubs, schools, and community partners to promote the event.

   – Evaluate the impact of the Community Read through surveys and community feedback.

6. Quarterly Specialty Programs:

   – Plan and execute special events or programs once per quarter, catering to unique community interests or seasonal themes.

   – Work closely with local experts, artists, and performers to provide enriching experiences.

   – Ensure effective marketing and promotion of these programs.

8. Community Engagement:

   – Foster strong relationships with the local community, schools, and partner organizations.

   – Solicit feedback and input from community members to continuously improve and adapt programming.

9.  Other Duties

   – Administrative tasks regarding tracking, budgeting and requesting supplies

   – Documentation of event attendance for State and interlibrary tracking purposes

   – Other events, duties, requests or needs as requested by the Director or Library leadership.

– Proficiency in using relevant software and technology for program promotion and evaluation.
