Hesston Public Library – the Best Small Public Library Library in Kansas 2015 by KLA – is looking for a hybrid programming coordinator/librarian!

The position is 28 hours per week, $12-$15 per hour commiserate with education and experience. We offer paid sick leave, paid vacation and in this position some flex/work-from-home opportunities. Primarily hours are afternoons, evenings and one Saturday per month.  Applications accepted until the position is filled.

The programming coordinator will be responsible for creating high-quality programs for community members of all ages. The coordinator will have a great deal of creative freedom with themes, activities, events and programs.

This position reports to the Director.


Associates degree or equivalent experience in education, library science or early childhood education preferred. Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills. Familiarity with social media.


Create and coordinate high-quality programming for library patrons of all ages, with emphasis on early childhood, tweens and adults.

The programming Coordinator is responsible for managing the programming portion of the budget.

Documenting program participation for monthly and end of year reporting.

The program coordinator will work closely with the Director to integrate the library into larger community events. The programming coordinator will also work with the Director to cultivate relationships with community members to garner feedback and potential programming partnerships.

Hosting Wednesday Wigglers storytime weekly.

Hosting or coordinating monthly teen/adult activities or craft nights.

Hesston Public Library is popular with tweens after school. The programming coordinator will be responsible for after school programming two to three times per week, aimed at late elementary and early middle school children.

Communicates programming information to the Director and library staff.

Programming Coordinator will also fill the role of librarian approximately 12 hours per week, working the circulation desk, answering inquiries, cataloging materials, processing interlibrary loans and requests.


Requires the ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing with management, staff, and the general public. Requires the use of general office equipment such as computer, copier, fax machine, and telephone. This job also requires lifting, carrying and reaching.


The majority of the work is performed in a public library environment. There may also be travel to off-site programming locations. Out of town travel may be required. Work involves contact with the public of all ages and ability levels.
